DESCRIPTION:Mentorship\nEdit “Mentorship”  \n\nThe Placer Sheriff’s Activities league has been awarded grant money to expand on our mentorship program. With National Pal and funds from the Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP)\, we will be implementing a year long program mentoring youth ages 12-17. \nPSAL will partner with the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation\, offering the “Badges for Baseball” curriculum as part of this program. This curriculum uses physical activities such as baseball\, basketball\, soccer\, dodgeball and a unique game called Quick Ball\, to interact and teach important life skills and values. Some of the skills and values taught include leadership\, sportsmanship\, teamwork\, respect for oneself and others and living a healthy lifestyle. We will be taking several field trips throughout the year as well working on a Community Service project to be implemented in the summer of 2018. \nThis program will run from February 2018 through November 2018. Sessions are held the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Most of our members come from low-income\, single-parent households\, or foster homes. Programs\, which run year round\, are low-cost to avoid the exclusion of any child due to family income. As local non-profit organizations\, we strive to prevent crime in our area by intervening in the lives of youth early on and assisting in the development of meaningful relationships with police officers. These PALs (or SALs) are part of one of the largest organized crime prevention programs in the country\, the CalPAL organization. \n  \nOn December 1\, 2018\, we are hosting our 3rd Annual Crab Feed! This fun event will be filled with Placer County officials and members of the community who commit themselves to helping programs such as these. All proceeds from the event will be divided between agencies and directly benefit all three programs! This event is Hawaiian Theme- so wear your best Hawaiian attire! \n
